We got cleared to start moving stuff over to the new apartment. I am happy and excited, especially after talking to the neighbors briefly. It's an old lady with cats next to us and I LOVE OLD PEOPLE SO MUCH. Quiet, non intrusive... I had a nice time talking to her and she let us borrow a standing dolly (we had been using a flat dolly which just made every box fall over). I told Alex we gatta let her come over for drinks when we are set up. Or I'll at least make her cookies... Or beer bread...

I am however devastated because the hideous mustard yellow paint in the kitchen is GONE. My 70s dream kitchen VANISHED beneath eggshell white. No I'm not going to paint it back it's too much work.

My two coworkers are in a pissing contest. Well, a one sided one. The shop bully, C, hates another artist, B.

B is a nice guy and I get along with him well enough. B specializes in blackouts and his fun personality has him hanging out with my mentor a lot. C used to hang out with her a lot, but now that B is there she is having more fun with him. C feels replaced so he's been acting out and trying to drag ME into it. It feels like choosing parents in a divorce. He drags me into talking shit (I give vague responses) and he tries to one up everything B does. B doesn't care about him and thinks he's annoying, and knows that I have his back.

Shop drama is ANNOYING but at least it doesn't involve me. Fully. C is trying to get me on his side and I have expressed constantly that I don't want to be brought into whatever shit he's doing.

That about sums up what's going on. I'm using this post as an excuse to keep from moving boxes for a bit more...

I survived the convention! It was a low turn out this year but I made almost 1k so I'll take it lol

Luckily the shop bully was fussy and didn't do much other than complain and bitch about everyone around him, so I generally ignored him and he fucked off. He left the convention early which was great for me because I didn't want to deal with him. Unfortunately he didn't help set up or break down, which was a pain in my ass but whatever.

I only have today off before i have to go back to work so I'm trying to relax as much as I can. EVERYTHING IS SORE. I made a fair amount of friends tho and it was delightful. I enjoyed tattooing and advertising to people, I just hope that people will like me enough to want a tattoo by me.

I got Minecraft and I fully intend to just blob today and play it.

It's the yearly tattoo convention!

We've all been getting ready for it, and it will be my first "walk up" convention. AKA, any Joe Schmoe can walk up and request a tattoo. I'm excited and nervous, there's a lot of big names there and really talented artists, I feel like I can't compare much but I want to believe I can do an okay job. I'm wedged between my buddy and the shop bully in the booth, which is ANNOYING but at least I'll have my friend on my left. I'm working about 12-13 hours a day doing tattoos, which will get me good money hopefully. The price of gas and inflation has been impacting the businesses lately, all my tattoo friends are suffering because aint no one got money.

There's going to be afterparties nightly so I'm going to need a lot of coffee and energy drinks in me. I sleep around 11-1130 but the convention ends at 11 so I guess I'll be up til 2 nightly. BLAH. There's a lot of cocaine at the after parties which I'm not excited about because I generally don't like being any kind of intoxicated anymore, so I'll be the square with a bottle of water lol

Hopefully I can make more friends and clients tho! Fingers crossed I can use my charm.

So the HEALTH INSPECTOR is making rounds lately. For reference I got nothing to hide, I'm not worried. But another tattoo artist pulled up on the shop popping the curb and came in, telling us the city health inspector was making their rounds to shops. CUE PANIC. Most of the younger generation artists aren't freaked out, but some of the older generation artists were locking up their stuff. I have all my paperwork and I do all my forms so I'm fine lol

I got texted by a friend at another shop that some shops local to her were getting hella fined because they were forgetting to put down the lot number for their inks -- which has never been necessary before. Weird! I'm going to unfortunately start doing that, which is just more paperwork for me to do. At least I won't get fined.

This weekend I'm going to a benefit for a friend and his dog who were attacked by an offleash dog, an unfortunate problem of our city. It's also May Day! I'm making oat cakes and I'm gonna repot some plants. It's pretty boring honestly but that's fine, I'm lazy after moving and just want to sleep all the time. I'm also planning out my birthday trip, which will be to Chicago. I'm so excited.

I got my first tattoo stalker... I think.

Her name is Amber, she showed up at the shop one day while I was working on someone. She asked if she could talk to me, and I said
" ... Hey man, I'm busy, I'll contact you when I'm done."
She said fine, she was going to wait at the gas station nearby until I was done. ...Okay.
She showed up later to discuss flash, but she genuinely didn't want to talk about that long and instead wanted to talk like we were on a date. Getting to know each other stuff. I cut it short and told her I'd contact her on Instagram. She instead gave me her phone number that I later trashed because I don't want to blur the lines of the business relationship.

Over the course of the past month, Amber would send me multiple "good morning" IG messages, or poke me for random reasons. I never respond because again, I see her as a client. Thursday afternoon while I was out with Friend Chelsea at the Natural History Museum, she did her usual 'good morning' text and then just exploded my inbox with random memes. As in, memes I don't understand. Memes about furries, memes about Jesus loving me, memes about cats eating fruits, memes about anime. Like it was a LOT (probably ten memes). And unprompted!

And while it's anticlimactic, I didn't respond. I don't have anything to say. And I don't know what to do if she shows up at the shop again.
Climb through the ceiling to freedom maybe? Tunnel out the back wall?

The current joke in the shop is that she is in love with me. UGH.

On an entirely unrelated note, I'm probably going to start taking photos of small things in my apartment, during my day at the tattoo shop, things you wouldn't normally care about but I find interesting (as in, what's on my bookshelf, in my mess drawer, on my record cabinet). I don't really have a real reason to, other than to enjoy the aesthetic of small things in my life. I'm trying to think of a good tag for it, but I'm looking forward to it actually!

My life has been kind of playing The Sims lately, woops. (No, I didn't get Cottage Living, but I WANT TO). I like the drama of it -- I had a skanky homewrecker grandma sleeping with everyone and dressing like a teenager. She's a hot slut living her best life! Hashtag Girlboss or whatever! Then she died after having two kids from some rando she met at the club. Rather than let the kids get taken by the state (the Sim State?), I made a teenage "niece" who now is failing school because she has to take care of two children and work to keep the lights on. Oh, the drama! I love how stupid it is.

Friday the 13th at the shop happened. Tattoo shops are always doing a deal for Friday the 13ths, they're usually pretty crazy around that time. I've even seen people do tattoos for 13 dollars (with free Hepatitis C!) but we tend to charge a little more since we have some good quality artists. I didn't tattoo anyone the 13th since I don't consider myself good enough to do a whole bunch of people at once, but I hung out and worked on designs. It was pretty quiet, so we all got to shoot the shit. Later, one of the shop "managers" came back from Vegas. (He's not really a manager, more so a second in command)
He went to Vegas with my mentor for her birthday, and the city was apparently on lock down from Covid. She's probably going to be in a foul mood when she comes back and I'm not excited -- Apparently her on again off again boyfriend invited a bunch of people she didn't know over, they did cocaine, and he disappeared. If the "manager" wasn't there, she would have been stranded in Vegas. I feel bad for her, but the deadbeat has done this so often I wonder why she lets it happen.

ANYWAYS I'm going to watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit and try to have a pleasant Saturday at the shop. I hope it's drama free.

On Chewsday (Tuesday) it was pretty uneventful, I didn't get the opportunity to tattoo some friends since my mentor wasn't there to watch over, so I just worked on flash for a bit and painted with some gouache and called it a day. Me and Alex are still annoyingly into counting calories and fitness (I'm down to 155 lbs!) so we made chicken-crust pizza. Which was .... Puree-ing a chicken with a bunch of herbs and spreading the knockoff pate across a baking sheet and baking it to make the bread base. Yeah, it was okay, but man are health foods weird.

Did I gentrify pizza?

Anyways I tattoo'd a burning match and a devil kewpie yesterday. You need to stretch the skin really intensely to get a good line.
Think of trying to cut fabric -- would you cut the fabric when it's all bunched up on itself? Nah, you gotta lay it out and spread it. I had no problems with the match, but the kewpie gave me trouble since it was inner thigh and there was a lot of skin to stretch. It felt like I was kneading dough. It turned out okay, but I gotta figure out how to really stretch the fattier areas of skin properly. One of my coworkers insists on stretching with your fingers as close to the needle as possible but I'm a puss and don't wanna get pricked but MAYBE that's what I need to do.

I'm a little frustrated since tattooing is so old school, they tend to haze people. I get a lot of negative reinforcement at work rather than positive because it's just that kind of industry, and it's giving me one hell of an attitude lol... My coworker is very nice, she is gentle when teaching me and I learn so much more. My mentor just calls me an idiot or sloppy, she's really moody and likes to yell so I tend to just shut up if she goes off. Her negative reinforcement gives me an attitude, but my coworker's kindness helps me learn more. Not sure how I'm gonna get out of this without clocking someone at this point ... It'll likely be the oldest guy there, who likes to call me a pussy and a fag. I usually ignore it or just shoot back, but he gets butthurt easily so I'm usually the one in trouble.

Okay I'm complaining A LOT. Woops. I think that wraps this up.

A week later from my last post and I've OFFICIALLY survived the Great Texas Freeze. I have a lot of very strong political opinions about how this is handled, and how AOC is a saint and Ted Cruz needs to be bludgeoned with a club until he stops being a pussy ass bitch leaving for Cancun when the rest of us are struggling. BUT I WON'T GO INTO THAT.

I read my last post and we continued to have spotty internet, power, and no water until late Thursday. Our water was not clean nor drinkable until late Saturday due to a water boil notice. Other places may not have water boil notices as frequently as Texas, but it's because we get brain eating amoebas in the water and you have to vigorously boil any water that goes into any orifice or NEAR any orifice, if the water filtration / power fails. So cut to me doing dishes with scalding, boiling water and waiting 2 hours for a pot to cool so I could wash my face for the night and brush my teeth. Baths were had by standing in a bathtub and pouring cold boiled water over us. Extremely unsexy. BUT IT'S OVER.

I also read that some liberals from other states are saying we deserve this for voting red. Um, what? My gay ass says otherwise. There are a huge amount of blue voters here, but I guess that narrative doesn't help their misguided anger.

I went in for work on Saturday since my tattoo mentor was back from Colorado. As the tattoo apprentice, I'm like the assistant that hands the surgeon the scalpels and tools. I'm around for tattoos and give aide; But I'm not always standing by, when I'm not immediately needed in a tattoo I clean and do my own practice tattoos. I took some photos of my setup so you guys could see!

There's my ol' girl! Alex and the tattoo team were kind enough to rally together and get me a machine to practice with for Christmas. Originally the intense vibration of a coil machine was really hard to work with, but I'm getting better slowly. The power brick on the right side powers the machine, which is connected through that heavily wrapped up clipcord. The ink cap and water (for cleaning the needle in case it's gunked up by human skin) are on the left.

Here's a closeup <3 That brass-looking thing at the top hits the bar below it, which controls the needle. It's the equivalent of a hammer hitting a nail, many times a second. I'm not going to go into the science because it's A LOT.

I have today off and I plan on cleaning up our apartment the best I can before I go to the tattoo shop the rest of the week. I also plan on playing a little Katamari, which Alex and I got drunk on Saturday and played and it was SO FUN UGH. He had never played Katamari Damacy before, which is crazy to me ... I gotta teach him how to roll.

Happy belated Halloween. I have good news!!

First of all I definitely want to be active on here again, so there's that. SECOND OF ALL.

I GOT A TATTOO APPRENTICESHIP!!!!

I'm now working at a tattoo shop in my free time, and I'm so much happier. I loved and will always love my trade of dead people, but I've been a big fan of art for a long time and I'm hype to start talking about my new journey. Yeehaw!

Since I am now required to be on the fucking web I have an instagram. DM me if you want it, I'll give it to anyone!
