Crochet Ideas and Christmas Cards

So of course I'm into crocheting since my hobbies are wide and varied. I don't crochet much but I'm making a blanket and I really do enjoy it. So mindless! 

I'm trying to think of Christmas ideas that can use this skill. I don't have a lot of money, so making something out of discount yarn seems pretty nice. Anyone have any experience with crocheting gifts?

ALSO regarding Xmas, who wants Xmas cards from me? I'm always down to support the postal system.

Trivets can be extremely useful.

Projects tend to get behind schedule, the larger the worse. After a certain size things are awkward to carry around, so small is better for gifts.

Get some of the crochet thread and a book on patterns and make some Christmas ornaments. Or just make itty bitty granny squares, starch them and put ribbons and bells, and bam! Ornament.

Ooooh! Smart! What weight/size yarn do you use for that? I only have 4 weight and a 5.5 needle

I have no idea what it's called, it's the little balls of crochet thread, it comes in red, green, and white multicolor so you can make just one square without switching over colors and it'll look nice. You can get it at Walmart for like three, four bucks.

I do knit gifts sometimes and I try to just always be making something, then stash it away for the next birthday/holiday. That way there's not like a hard deadline on it.

Crocheting is awesome though, and faster I think?
