So I found out that Disney+ is going to be streaming the theatrical release of Hamilton. I'd never buy Disney+, but Alex got a free trial SO WE ARE GONNA WATCH IT. I've listened to the entire soundtrack a year or so ago and really enjoyed it, but Alex has never seen it so I've spent a lot of downtime today at work sending him songs.

Not to doxx myself, but I grew up where the First and Second Battle of the Civil War took place. I remember summer meant the re-enactors were coming to town. I worked at a café on the battlefields and befriended Union and Confederacy alike on my lunch break when I brought them water (they were in wool suits!). There's museums every few blocks. School trips were to Gettysburg, Washington D.C., Yorktown, Alexandria. I grew up steeped in Revolutionary and Civil War lore so a musical about the Revolutionary War excited the hell out of me.

I found out recently some people hate re-enactors and says it glorifies war and violence. I disagree, I think it's a great learning experience for people, and trust me, those men are suffering in those wool suits. I like history and learning about it, and I think re-enactors are a lot of fun and help visualize historic events ... until the actors themselves glorify the bad ideals … You know what I mean. I've personally never seen an actor who said the Confederacy was right (THANK GOD). I wonder if there's a big pot of straws and they draw from it to find out if they are on the Confederate or Union side, or American or British side?

Anyways I'm EXCITED for Hamilton and that the week is over, I'm going to lay on my face for hours and not move.

I love both Lafayette and Jefferson in the show, that actor is just so damn amazing and charismatic. And yeah, Jefferson in real life was a dick, but in the musical he's a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

And yeah, if folks would actual go to a reenactment they'd probably change their tune. Quite a bit of my chosen family has relocated to Manassas, and my nephew is a huge civil war buff (his a history major at college). So I hear a lot about it, but I love that he still wants to tell me all about his studies, fascinations, and life in general.
