One Sided Pissing Contest

We got cleared to start moving stuff over to the new apartment. I am happy and excited, especially after talking to the neighbors briefly. It's an old lady with cats next to us and I LOVE OLD PEOPLE SO MUCH. Quiet, non intrusive... I had a nice time talking to her and she let us borrow a standing dolly (we had been using a flat dolly which just made every box fall over). I told Alex we gatta let her come over for drinks when we are set up. Or I'll at least make her cookies... Or beer bread...

I am however devastated because the hideous mustard yellow paint in the kitchen is GONE. My 70s dream kitchen VANISHED beneath eggshell white. No I'm not going to paint it back it's too much work.

My two coworkers are in a pissing contest. Well, a one sided one. The shop bully, C, hates another artist, B.

B is a nice guy and I get along with him well enough. B specializes in blackouts and his fun personality has him hanging out with my mentor a lot. C used to hang out with her a lot, but now that B is there she is having more fun with him. C feels replaced so he's been acting out and trying to drag ME into it. It feels like choosing parents in a divorce. He drags me into talking shit (I give vague responses) and he tries to one up everything B does. B doesn't care about him and thinks he's annoying, and knows that I have his back.

Shop drama is ANNOYING but at least it doesn't involve me. Fully. C is trying to get me on his side and I have expressed constantly that I don't want to be brought into whatever shit he's doing.

That about sums up what's going on. I'm using this post as an excuse to keep from moving boxes for a bit more...

Weekly Roundup

Currently choking down protein powder smoothie. Guhhhhhhhhh.

I'm BULKING which means after my cut (I made it down to 136 pounds) I'm gonna be packing on the muscle with a higher calorie load and harder workouts. Really excited to eat a ton, not excited to work out. Never excited to work out.

The 1st we will be moving into our new place. The elderly couple renting it out is moving out the 25th ISH and said if we help them move furniture we can move in stuff sooner as a sort of storage. Yay! I'm hoping I can document some of it here.

Otherwise I just am tattooing and always drawing tattoos. I am doing fall themed tattoos -- Gourds, sunflowers, mushrooms -- In hopes that someone will get it. I love fall and the change of seasons, I prefer cold and gloomy months and what it brings (Halloween and Xmas)

SPEAKING OF I'm doing a fall equinox brunch for me and Alex on Sunday. The plan is homemade beer bread with a cranberry, pepper, sweet potato, bacon, brussel sprout and apple hash with maple-basalmic dressing. I'm not sure what to have as a side -- Apple crisp? Maybe? I feel like that's not a very filling brunch, but I'm honestly sure it'll be pretty filling. What other fall themed food would go in this brunch?!

FREEDOM

So me and Alex are going to be moving into a new apartment soon. We spent the last 6 or so months house sitting for his parents as they are on a around the world trip. Sounds nice. Turns out, they hate me for "turning him gay" (lol) and his parents called me white trash, low class, etc... Cuz I'm a tattoo artist. Not sure why else. I'm watching their house for them, the least they could do is not insult me. ANYWAYS we are finally moving out right when they are coming back. I'm looking forward to it. Finally me and Alex can have a nice place to hunker down for until we leave Texas.

Texas' laws are becoming a little much and we see the writing on the wall for people like us. We will be moving to Virginia in a year or so, planning late October 2023. So exciting. So scary. But for now I'm looking forward to a new place to go to. We are moving in officially Oct. 1st, but will probably start organizing our stuff sooner. Since we been living in someone else's house we haven't really been able to decorate and it's killing me. I'm looking forward to ~new beginnings~

Con Hangover

I survived the convention! It was a low turn out this year but I made almost 1k so I'll take it lol

Luckily the shop bully was fussy and didn't do much other than complain and bitch about everyone around him, so I generally ignored him and he fucked off. He left the convention early which was great for me because I didn't want to deal with him. Unfortunately he didn't help set up or break down, which was a pain in my ass but whatever.

I only have today off before i have to go back to work so I'm trying to relax as much as I can. EVERYTHING IS SORE. I made a fair amount of friends tho and it was delightful. I enjoyed tattooing and advertising to people, I just hope that people will like me enough to want a tattoo by me.

I got Minecraft and I fully intend to just blob today and play it.

Con-palooza

It's the yearly tattoo convention!

We've all been getting ready for it, and it will be my first "walk up" convention. AKA, any Joe Schmoe can walk up and request a tattoo. I'm excited and nervous, there's a lot of big names there and really talented artists, I feel like I can't compare much but I want to believe I can do an okay job. I'm wedged between my buddy and the shop bully in the booth, which is ANNOYING but at least I'll have my friend on my left. I'm working about 12-13 hours a day doing tattoos, which will get me good money hopefully. The price of gas and inflation has been impacting the businesses lately, all my tattoo friends are suffering because aint no one got money.

There's going to be afterparties nightly so I'm going to need a lot of coffee and energy drinks in me. I sleep around 11-1130 but the convention ends at 11 so I guess I'll be up til 2 nightly. BLAH. There's a lot of cocaine at the after parties which I'm not excited about because I generally don't like being any kind of intoxicated anymore, so I'll be the square with a bottle of water lol

Hopefully I can make more friends and clients tho! Fingers crossed I can use my charm.

So the HEALTH INSPECTOR is making rounds lately. For reference I got nothing to hide, I'm not worried. But another tattoo artist pulled up on the shop popping the curb and came in, telling us the city health inspector was making their rounds to shops. CUE PANIC. Most of the younger generation artists aren't freaked out, but some of the older generation artists were locking up their stuff. I have all my paperwork and I do all my forms so I'm fine lol

I got texted by a friend at another shop that some shops local to her were getting hella fined because they were forgetting to put down the lot number for their inks -- which has never been necessary before. Weird! I'm going to unfortunately start doing that, which is just more paperwork for me to do. At least I won't get fined.

This weekend I'm going to a benefit for a friend and his dog who were attacked by an offleash dog, an unfortunate problem of our city. It's also May Day! I'm making oat cakes and I'm gonna repot some plants. It's pretty boring honestly but that's fine, I'm lazy after moving and just want to sleep all the time. I'm also planning out my birthday trip, which will be to Chicago. I'm so excited.

Another Update

Okay so now that I’m back from being out at a brewery with Alex for Easter, hi! Happy Easter and Sameach Pesach.

I’ve been tattooing this whole time. Drawing all the time, tattooing all the time. We lost good coworkers to go to other shops, emotions teeter, personalities clash — It’s like a bunch of kindergarteners in there. But, it is a tattoo shop. So what are you expecting honestly lol

Alex’s parents are going to be traveling the world for a year, and needed house sitters. Me and Alex’s lease was coming up and we decided to be the house sitters. It was free rent after all. I don’t mind it, it gives me the opportunity to leave Texas thank fuck hahaha the people down here are CRAZY (yes I know about all the laws. No I don’t want to talk about it. I voted.)

I’ve moved on to gardening a lot in my free time. It’s my first year as a food gardener because inflation and general interest in it, so I’ve been trying different methods and plants. Thanks to [personal profile] 8hyenas I have not horribly and irreparably ruined the garden. So far its a dying poblano that I resurrected and is now making many babies, two green bell peppers, a jalapeño, and four tomatoes (3 Roma 1 san Marzano). The poblano is producing the most right now, and one of the Romas is beginning to flower. It’s all very encouraging!

(Of course my other plants I normally talk about here are fine. They’re getting used to their new home)

Since we moved I’ve been nesting hardcore, donating stuff I don’t need, and overall trying to make someone else’s home seem like ours. We are staying on the bottom floor which we have moved around and made a little nicer and a little more homey (thankfully Alex’s parents are pretty minimalist in things they own so we aren’t competing for space). I hope shit works out!

Admittedly I don’t know what to talk about. What do people even talk about on here anymore?!

It's been a while but I've been busy ok? OK!?

Me and Alex moved into a new place. With a GARDEN. I've been overwhelmingly busy with tattoos. Like. It takes up my entire life. Alex is busy with his hospital job. I am very lazy and yet to make a real update but I'm also intimidated at the idea of returning and not having anything to talk about. What do I talk about? Coming home and sleeping?

The Thickest Lad of the 70s

Texas Renaissance Fair is here!

I've never been, but I hear it's a huge event. I'm going with the shop to it on Halloween, and for that I need a costume. I hate the cheapo costumes that you can find in Party City, so I decided to go to Ross and buy bedsheets to use as fabric. I had some bedsheets from when I was living alone, but since Alex and I have a King bed, I have no use for twin bedsheets. Rather than waste them, I've been using them for small projects here and there. Now they have purpose!

I am uh.

Woefully unprepared for Butterwick designs from the 70s.

First of all DAMN these sizes are SMALL (I'm a men's small-medium in shirts, pants ~34) and according to Butterwick I'm a size 14. Second of all DAMN this shit makes NO SENSE.

I haven't even cut my pieces yet. I'm too intimidated by all the instructions -- I facetimed my mom and we went over them, and I have an idea, but WOOOOO do I not know shit about this. I'm used to internet walkthrough tutorials on sewing, not this. So, uh, we will see if my tunic is wearable.

Internet Rabbit Holes

A few friends around DW have been posting these things, like ... Internet rabbit holes, favorite internet things of the week. I have been wanting to do one but I never really do much on the internet because I am too busy with tattoos and then melting onto the floor when I get home, but I'm gonna make a lil one!

Alpha Tec - Youtube channel of Japanese man who cooks food on the beach or in the woods. Extremely soothing, I just like watching.

Purr Cat Cafe - Watched this with Alex and we were GRIPPED with intrigue. A woman who owns a cat cafe and how it all falls apart because of her piss poor social media attitude. Good for when you're working on other things and need something in the background.

Suspense! "Sorry, Wrong Number" - Suspense is a radio show from the 1940s that aired through the early 60s. It tells different horror stories in short format (like 20 mins to a hour). I like to listen to this while I crochet or draw. This one is a classic!

That's all I can think of for now. IDK if people actually read this stuff but! Why not!

Crochet Ideas and Christmas Cards

So of course I'm into crocheting since my hobbies are wide and varied. I don't crochet much but I'm making a blanket and I really do enjoy it. So mindless!

I'm trying to think of Christmas ideas that can use this skill. I don't have a lot of money, so making something out of discount yarn seems pretty nice. Anyone have any experience with crocheting gifts?

ALSO regarding Xmas, who wants Xmas cards from me? I'm always down to support the postal system.

Wrangling Lurch

I spent the day yesterday wrangling Lurch. Do long time readers remember Lurch? My most beloved monstera deliciosa? Here he is over a year ago, when I bought him (buckled up for safety!)

So he has gotten immensely bigger and has started growing sideways and out. For a while I tolerated it but then I decided to make my own moss pole so I'd stop smacking into his leaves when walking around. Online moss poles are expensive as fuck (especially since this one is about 4' tall), so I bought some plastic garden wire and some spaghnum moss and made my own.

Lush! Elegant! Mossy!

In theory he will grow into the moss pole and start growing upwards, and I will no longer have to zip tie him to it. In theory.

I'm Mostly Proud Of The Chair

Finally back from the lake! It was nice having four days off instead of my usual two, and I plan on using it to the fullest. I don't think I have a lot to talk about but let's see ...

It was really nice hanging with friends. I brought all my art supplies to draw with, but I ended up spending most of the time crocheting. got into it on a whim after my friend's mom sent me a nice blanket, and I can't imagine how much of a labor of love this is. My fingers! But it's fun...
We all did a lot of nothing, which included drinking and video games and swimming in the lake. I don't drink much so I had maybe one drink but my friends were consistently fucked up.

I felt, in my bones, that I had to go to the antique store even if it was in bumfuck nowhere. And my bones was right, there were some great finds there but I ended up getting a beautiful rocking chair for 50 bucks. The rattan was all in good condition and the wood wasn't too damaged aside from decades of occasional knicks and scratches (nothing really noticeable). I wasn't sure if it could hold my weight (I'm about 150 lbs) but it sure can, and I rocked in it while watching Guns Akimbo last night (extremely stupid movie, unsure if I recommend).

Today I need to finish sewing my table runner, make a moss pole for Lurch (who is looming in the background of my chair pic), maybe crochet some granny squares as fall-ish potholders, and force myself to watercolor some flash I made.

Short Updates

Ok I'm about to run to the tattoo shop but UPDATES:

-We are going to Lake Conroe instead of the farm outside Corpus Christi. I'm sad that we aren't going to be on the farm but I've never been to a big lake before like that ... Excitement!

-I submitted for a local art show and got an email back after like 15 minutes that I was accepted. Shock and awe!

-The fursona poll reached an overwhelming verdict of Raccoon or Ring Tail Cat. I'm going with the second option, but he was raised by geese (thank you Briel)

-The hurricane barely skimmed us, we got a night of heavy rain and power outages but otherwise nothing interesting happened. Boo. However I can tattoo all this week until I go to Lake Conroe. Yay!

-I've been playing Fallout 4 and I DON'T REMEMBER FERAL GHOULS BEING SO AWFUL

-I'm sewing a Halloween table runner. It is too short for our table. I'm gonna make it work anyways.

Back From Austin

I went to Austin!

I had a nice rock climb with my sister-in-law on Saturday, then she came by and had a few drinks with us as I idly packed. The shiba loved her, which is great because she played with him in my absence. I like catching up with family stuff, even if a percentage of it is family drama (my other sister-in-law is anti vax, Qanon, etc).

Austin was a lot of fun, I went to Barton Springs and since I was alone (Alex was getting tattooed), I spent that time staring at the wildlife there. There's apparently crawfish, fish, and salamanders there, hiding under the rocks. I would get to a mossy area and stand still, looking for them, but I only found fish looking at me. Eventually Alex texted me and told me his tattoo artist wanted to meet me (!) for drinks and to hang out, and while he ended up being too busy that day to properly hang, I finally got to meet him since Covid regulations usually meant I would drop Alex off then go fuck around somewhere.

We came back just in time for the hurricane, Nicholas or w/e, to come through this week. I'm not really concerned tbh -- Granted, I said that on Valentine's Day, when we had our intense winter outages so maybe I'm cursed LOL. The worst I anticipate is flooding, and some of my customers missing their appointments (boo).

Otherwise I've decided to spend the remainder of my day unpacking and darning socks. I get mad about the holes in my socks, and when I whip stitch them back together they last for a bit before fraying. I'm gonna have to patch them now, because I PAID FOR THEM DAMMIT I'M HOLDING ONTO THEM.

Fursona Poll

I don't consider myself a furry but I like fursonas, I think they're cute. And when I draw little doodles of myself I never like it. So I'm relying on YOU, THE PEOPLE, to help me figure out what the fuck kinda animal I am. I'm very candid with my personality on here so I think it's a potential.

OKAY CAST YOUR VOTES.

Munchkin Cat: Alex chose this solely because "you got short legs". SIGH. I also like to lay around a lot, like a cat.

Hyper Dog (Like a spaniel?): Speaks for itself.

Raccoon: Eats anything. Works next to a dumpster. Occasionally smokes weed next to a dumpster.

Ringtail Cat: Submitted by my friend, said it's a raccoon with more energy. HMMMM.

Cast your votes! Or don't! I'm at a loss!

Dumb Update (Dumpdates?)

I haven't drawn much other than tattoo stuff lately, and when I'm not at the shop I'm blobbed at home. I'm finally halfway through Cowboy Bebop. I like all the characters, but I find Ed really obnoxious. I like it, but it does feel like it has a lot of filler, like "Monster of the Week" scenarios. Granted, a lot of older animes are like that -- Like Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, etc.

Things:

-The Christmas Cactus is not dead yet. Yay!

-Me and Alex MAY be going to see Shang-Chi this weekend, which is whatever to me because I have Marvel fatigue, but I'm interested in Marvel characters that aren't cookie cutter. He's feeling pretty burnt out by Marvel too; We are hesitantly cautious. Has anyone seen it yet?

-We are going to my friend's ranch the weekend of the 18th. For those of you that have been around a long time, I'm sure you heard about the ranch. I've written a journal about being there before. It's haunted!

-My sister-in-law is in our city for a few months, so I'm getting to know her. She's surprisingly liberal (for being from bumfuck Virginia) and pretty perky. I'm going to try to go rock climbing with her sometime this week...

Another Plant

My September appointment book is almost filled (just have 4 open slots left). Humbled!

In plant news, while I was walking outside to go to the gym, Alex spotted a little abandoned cactus! A taped sign on it said "Christmas Cactus -- Free to a good home" ... How can I deny that?!

(Here it is in it's new home)
I haven't thought of a name for it yet, but I've been doing some research. Apparently the weather is slightly too hot for it, so I'm a little vexed on what to do since I don't have any space inside for it ... I may just put it outside and hope for the best. :C I have miserable lighting in my apartment right now, and have a grow bulb for my plants to keep them alive because otherwise they would all be dead. Even poor Lurch is putting out fewer fenestrations!

When we went to my friend's house a few days ago, her boyfriend said his uncle remodels rentable houses, and I'm really eyeing the idea right now since my poor plants are struggling in this environment... But our lease won't be up for a while. SIGH. I'd love a garden fsdkafjs

This Has Become An Art Account I Guess

I've been watching Cowboy Bebop with Alex, I'm only about 3 episodes in but I'm having a lot of fun! I barely watch anime, and I've only started reading manga again (I'm not hip and with it)... I've been reading Vinland Saga at night, now that I finished Chainsaw Man. (Which I didn't like that much)

Anyways after a tattoo today I kind of derped around the shop and was just drawing random shapes to loosen up my hand (I clench it pretty tight when I'm stretching the skin), and figured I'd draw over the random shapes ... This Ilya turned out ok!

Art friends I recommend you try drawing over basic shapes, it's pretty fun.

Stalker + Intimate Looks at my Life?

I got my first tattoo stalker... I think.

Her name is Amber, she showed up at the shop one day while I was working on someone. She asked if she could talk to me, and I said
" ... Hey man, I'm busy, I'll contact you when I'm done."
She said fine, she was going to wait at the gas station nearby until I was done. ...Okay.
She showed up later to discuss flash, but she genuinely didn't want to talk about that long and instead wanted to talk like we were on a date. Getting to know each other stuff. I cut it short and told her I'd contact her on Instagram. She instead gave me her phone number that I later trashed because I don't want to blur the lines of the business relationship.

Over the course of the past month, Amber would send me multiple "good morning" IG messages, or poke me for random reasons. I never respond because again, I see her as a client. Thursday afternoon while I was out with Friend Chelsea at the Natural History Museum, she did her usual 'good morning' text and then just exploded my inbox with random memes. As in, memes I don't understand. Memes about furries, memes about Jesus loving me, memes about cats eating fruits, memes about anime. Like it was a LOT (probably ten memes). And unprompted!

And while it's anticlimactic, I didn't respond. I don't have anything to say. And I don't know what to do if she shows up at the shop again.
Climb through the ceiling to freedom maybe? Tunnel out the back wall?

The current joke in the shop is that she is in love with me. UGH.

On an entirely unrelated note, I'm probably going to start taking photos of small things in my apartment, during my day at the tattoo shop, things you wouldn't normally care about but I find interesting (as in, what's on my bookshelf, in my mess drawer, on my record cabinet). I don't really have a real reason to, other than to enjoy the aesthetic of small things in my life. I'm trying to think of a good tag for it, but I'm looking forward to it actually!
